NHL Betting: Flames vs Oilers Second Round Game 5 – 05/26/22

The second-round matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames heads back to Calgary for Game 5 of the series with the Oilers leading 3-1.

Calgary Flames (-160) vs Edmonton Oilers (+135)

The Flames are back at home after losing both games in Edmonton. That means they should have a little jump in their game since they are also on the verge of elimination in this high-scoring Battle of Alberta. What to watch here is that the Oilers’ top line of Connor McDavid, Loon Draisaitl, and Evander Kane have been unstoppable with each of them accomplishing incredible things thus far this postseason.

McDavid is playing at a 2.27 point-per-game pace, Draisaitl has broken two records in the past two games by assisting on four goals in one period in the playoffs and recording three-plus points in four consecutive games, and Kane by scoring 12 goals in the first 11 games of this postseason.

The Flames haven’t been shut down completely, but the first two games of the series were split in Calgary. The Oilers have very good odds by the way they are playing and are able to beat Jacob Markstrom consistently. Take the Oilers to end the series and become the second team to advance to the conference finals this season while also considering the alternate puckline (+300).

Over/Under

The over has hit in three of the four games in this series and was on the verge in Game 3. There have been 36 total goals scored in this series, so asking the teams to combine for more than six isn’t too much. The Oilers have proven they have the best offence going into the postseason by scoring 47 goals in 11 games, while the Flames had the sixth-most goals during the regular season and have a deep forward group.

Both goaltenders will be looking to bounce back from shaky performances where Markstrom gave the puck away in the first 30 seconds and Mike Smith allowed a goal from the Flames’ end. They should be more on their toes, but the offences will find a way to score as they have. Plus in a series-deciding game, there is bound to be an empty net for an extended period of time if the Flames are down in the game late.

Game Props

As it normally has, the first period should be a highly entertaining one with lots of action. The Flames will look for the hot start back at home to hold off elimination, while the Oilers will be looking to close out the series and move on to the conference finals for the first time since their Cup run in 2006. Take the over in goals (O2, +115).
