Fantasy Corner: Daily Fantasy Forward Picks – 05/26/2022

Latching onto Connor McDavid and/or Evander Kane is almost a must for daily fantasy lineups as the second round closes out. However, filling in the roster around those high-priced stars can get dicey. This betting guide will offer some suggestions for value plays at the forward positions to help find some value to offset those high price tags of the stars.

Teuvo Teravainen, Carolina Hurricanes

Teuvo Teravainen is leading the Hurricanes in scoring this postseason, and he’s been even more dangerous at home. When playing in his home rink this postseason, Teravainen has amassed two goals and seven assists. He scored a goal in Game 4, as well, setting up great potential for him in Game 5.

Teravainan gets time on the power play and the penalty kill, as well. His assist in Game 2 came shorthanded, and he takes shots in all situations – whether at even strength or on special teams. Teravainen has scored a point in every game of the series except Game 3 and is a great play at a great price, especially as the series goes back to Carolina.

Mikael Backlund, Calgary Flames

Mikael Backlund has had a good postseason for the Flames, scoring four goals and two assists across 11 games. He’s also been pretty steady on the offensive front, getting at least three shots in four of his last six games. Backlund had a goal in Game 4, and his line seemed to get going a bit for the Flames. They’re going to need more from the depth scoring to fight off elimination in Game 5.

Backlund has been a threat to score all series but has found the same struggles as many of the other Flames against Edmonton goalie Mike Smith. Backlund’s high output of shots along with his heavy workload – he’s averaging north of 20 minutes per game in the playoffs – make him a decent value play to fill out a center or utility spot on Thursday.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Edmonton Oilers

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is a bit on the pricey side, but his value is almost too good to ignore entering Thursday’s Game 5. He’s coming off a two-goal game in Game 4, where he blocked five shots, as well. That’s a huge day for the forward and is very promising as the series heads back to Calgary.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Edmonton Oilers (Jess Starr/The Hockey Writers)

Nugent-Hopkins was great in the first two games on the road in this series. He had three assists across those two games and logged a total of 44 minutes of ice time. He has played north of 20 minutes in every game of this series, and he’s delivered at least a point in every game but Game 3. Between his output and the massive minutes he logs, Nugent-Hopkins is a great play as the Oilers try to close out the series.
