Fantasy Corner: Daily Fantasy Defenseman Picks – 05/26/2022

The days of having multiple games to pull your daily fantasy hockey lineups from are starting to dwindle. Filling out a lineup with a lot of quality defensemen amongst the four teams playing on Thursday has been a struggle, too. This betting guide will offer some guidance on the best plays for defensemen for use in DFS in today’s pair of Game 5s.

Adam Fox, New York Rangers

Adam Fox is the most expensive defenseman, and he continues to be a must-play on days like this. His price has remained relatively low – compared to the high-priced forwards – but it’s starting to tick up a bit. That doesn’t matter. His performance predicates that he should be in every lineup, since he’s the most consistent defenseman going, and it should continue even though the Rangers are on the road.

Fox had a goal and an assist in New York’s Game 4 victory, but he also had four shots on goal and blocked a shot. He’s blocked 10 shots in this series and is coming off of points in back-to-back games. Fox is the best defensive player left in the playoffs, and his potential for points and combination of shots and blocks make him a must-play, even at his price.

Brett Pesce, Carolina Hurricanes

Points have been hard to come by for defensemen in this series. That means relying on shots on goal and blocked shots has become a way for inexpensive blueliners to produce huge value in daily fantasy lineups. Brett Pesce has been one of those guys all series against the New York Rangers.

In the four games against New York, Pesce has blocked 13 shots and has rattled off eight shots on goal. He has two games with at least five blocks and should have a chance for more as the series moves back to Carolina. HIs price across multiple platforms is well below average, and that frees up plenty of room for the Connor McDavids of the world.

Noah Hanifin, Calgary Flames

Noah Hanifin has had a solid postseason for the Flames, and he has a chance to get a boost in points as the series moves back to Calgary for Game 5. Hanifin had an assist in Game 4, his second point of the series. More importantly, he was much more involved on offense when at home for the first two games, so that could mean a bit of a boost for this must-win game for the Flames.

In his last three playoff games at home, Hanifin has totaled a blistering 16 shots on goal. He also blocked seven shots in those three games. He’s always logged tons of minutes, and his increased role on offense in his home rink makes him a great play – especially at a very reasonable price on multiple platforms. He should be a solid play on Thursday as the Flames try to stay alive.
