The Seattle Sounders aim to close out May with a victory after winning two of four contests this month. After a 2-0 defeat to FC Dallas, the Sounders rebounded with two victories against Minnesota United and Houston Dynamo FC. They’re up against a Seattle Sounders team that is 2-2-0 at home this season but has won two of their last three contests in May. They dropped their last home game to the Montreal Impact by a score of 2-0 but are hopeful to add to the misery of Seattle’s inability to win on the road.

The Sounders may be second-last in the Western Conference, but they’ve only played in 11 matches thus far. Most teams have completed 13-14 games into the 2022 season, giving them room to jump up in the standings. So far this month, they defeated Houston and Minnesota, two teams ahead of them and sharing identical 5-6-3 records. They’ve scored four goals this month but conceded four, something they aim to avoid in tonight’s match.

Charlotte FC may be in the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, but their play on the road is a concern. Posting an 0-5-1 record while playing as the visiting team, they were outscored 11-3 and looked inferior against teams below them in the standings. For this reason, they’re underdogs heading into the game, and why we’re tilting the scale in Seattle’s favour to carry out a win. Three points would elevate them from 13th to 10th place, leap-frogging Portland, Vancouver, and San Jose.

Seattle is a team capable of producing offense at home, having scored six goals in four contests this year. While they’re 2-2-0 at home, their two losses came at the hands of Nashville and Miami, two teams currently in a playoff position. Charlotte has allowed two goals or more in five of six road games despite dominating possession. Their ball control has been good thus far, but keeping scoring chances to a minimum continues to be a struggle.
For this very reason, we’re going with both teams combining for three goals or more. Seattle’s offense, combined with Charlotte’s inability to win on their road, puts you in a good position to earn a small return on your investment. Seattle has four goals in four games this month but has played just once at home. In that contest, they pumped Minnesota for three goals.
Prop Bet: Raul Rudiaz Anytime Goal Scorer (+100)
One player Charlotte will have to keep at bay is Raul Rudiaz, who has two goals in six games this year. He shares the team lead for tallies despite playing fewer total games than two of the three Sounders players. He’s started four of his six games while coming off the bench in two others and looked menacing every time the ball was in his control. In the Concacaf Champions League, he scored twice in two games off of six shots on target.

Since returning to the lineup, Rudiaz has two goals in his last three games, including the game-winning goal against Houston. He has taken 11 shots for an 18.2% conversion rate and has two goals on nine shots on target. He’s one of Seattle’s most-disciplined players, committing just one foul this year while drawing six. He remains one of the better ball distributors, holding an 83.6% success rate on passes and a 75% success rate on long-distance attempts. Both of his goals have come inside the box, so expect him to be hunting for space in that location again tonight.
