Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal of risk, too. The right low-salary plays can give you good production while affording you more chances to roster high-salary studs.
Friday night grants us two games. Let's see what may be out there.
Morgan Barron, Center, Winnipeg Jets
FanDuel Salary: $3,600
The Winnipeg Jets needed offense in the middle with Mark Scheifele shut down for at least four more games. Morgan Barron provided that on Monday night with a goal and two assists against Montreal.
The former New York Rangers prospect finally got his first real-world points as a member of the Jets. He also played a little more than 14 minutes. That was a season-high for the center.
Barron's four shots and five scoring chances were also both season highs as well.
With both teams likely to light the lamp some, Barron is a sneaky option that is shifty enough to aggravate the Florida Panthers' defense.
Kyle Palmieri, Wing, New York Islanders
FanDuel Salary: $3,800
Kyle Palmieri should not be in this salary range, but he is on Friday night.
He has two goals and three assists in his last six contests, yet the winger's salary is now under $4,000.
The Montreal Canadiens enter with a penalty kill that converts at just 74.7% and commit 10.2 penalty minutes per game (both ranked 28th in the NHL).
The winger is in a prime position and could finally strike on the power play. He does have 15 shots on goal and 18 scoring chances in his past seven games.
Zdeno Chara, Defenseman, New York Islanders
FanDuel Salary: $3,700
So, Zdeno Chara finally scored his first goal of the season on Wednesday night. Could he possibly do it again?
The potential is at least there. Chara will be going against one of the worst overall defensive teams in Montreal.
The veteran defender sees around 17 minutes per night and may have several opportunities to hit the opposition and block shots. He has nine shots and four blocked shots over his last four contests.
His low floor makes this a dangerous play, but Chara historically fares well against the Habs.
