NHL Betting: Rangers vs Penguins First Round Game 7 – 05/15/22

The first-round matchup between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins continues back in NY for Game 7 with the series tied 3-3. Get all the betting tips for the game here covering the moneyline, over/under, and game props.

New York Rangers (-145) vs Pittsburgh Penguins (+120)

This may be a good bet to wait on as the lines will change if either Sidney Crosby or Tristan Jarry are confirmed to be back in the lineup. Regardless, the Rangers are rolling and after winning two games in a row have a chance to finish the series off at home in what will be a very loud building.

Mika Zibanejad finally showed up in this series at a big time, while the kid line of Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko, and Filip Chytil has been performing well for having little-to-no playoff experience. The Rangers have also managed to get to Louis Domingue and show why the Penguins are in desperate need of their starting goaltender back. If Jarry doesn’t return, the Rangers have this game on lock. But if he does, they still have the momentum and skill to carry them past the Penguins for one more game.

Over/Under

All three of the previous Game 7s on Saturday hit the under, and with Jarry potentially returning for Game 7 between the Rangers and Penguins, this game will likely turn into a battle between him and Igor Shesterkin. But the thing to watch for is that all six games in this series have hit the over.

Crosby also has the potential of returning to the lineup, so that immediately adds offence back to the Penguins and boosts that top line. Meanwhile, Jarry would be cold and likely rusty after missing a significant amount of time just to jump into a Game 7. With the over/under set at 6, it’s not unreasonable to think it will hit in once again. Take the over (O6, -120) to hit for the seventh time in this series.

Game Props

The Penguins have gotten off to hot starts in the previous two games going up 2-0 in each of them. Playing from behind is not a recipe for success, even if the Rangers have pulled it off in consecutive games. Game 7s are always close and it’s what seasons come down to. Don’t expect the Penguins to jump on an early lead in a third consecutive game and take the Rangers to win the first period (+145) and the teams to combine for fewer than two goals in the first as well (U1.5, +100).
