NHL Betting: Rangers vs Hurricanes Second Round Series Bets

The New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes both earned Game 7 victories to advance to the next round. Carolina enters the second round as the favourites to win and carries the second-best odds in the Eastern Conference to win the Stanley Cup. The New York Rangers are riding the success of their star players while getting a full-team effort for 60+ minutes. This is where you can find everything, including team win odds, the over/under, and point spreads.

New York Rangers – Series Betting (-200)

The Rangers’ 52-win regular season was only the second time they hit 50 in the last 10 years. Chris Kreider became the team’s first 50-goal scorer since Jaromir Jagr hit 54 in the 2005-06 season. He also led all Rangers players in goals in the first round with five, and Mika Zibanejad led the team with 11 points. Defenseman Adam Fox is enjoying a fantastic postseason with three goals and 10 points, and the Rangers are getting offense in a collective effort.

The Rangers represent the league’s second-lowest odds to go all the way, in front of only the St. Louis Blues. A series sweep brings in the most value at +550, while going five games brings those odds down to +240. Should the series go to a more-likely six or seven games, the odds become a respectable +205. The Rangers bring in a whopping +1600 value to sweep the Hurricanes, while ending in a seven-game finale reduces the value to +650.

Rangers vs Hurricanes Head-to-Head

The Rangers vs Hurricanes matchup provides some interesting matchups on both offense and defense. The Hurricanes have the edge in terms of scoring power, but the Rangers can be the better defensive team. In four meetings during the regular season, Carolina won three of them. Sebastian Aho and Tony DeAngelo had three points each in a 6-3 victory, but the Rangers stormed back in the second meeting by shutting the Hurricanes out 2-0. The two teams dueled twice in April, with Carolina winning both and scoring four goals in each game.

The series will be won on two factors: coaching and goaltending. Igor Shesterkin suffered from stretches of poor play and was pulled twice in the first round. Antti Raanta has come up big for the Hurricanes in the absence of Frederik Andersen, posting a .927 save percentage and allowing two goals or less in three of five starts. How the coaching will match each other’s lines will ultimately determine the offensive potential in this series, as both teams possess equally-dangerous weapons upfront.

Carolina Hurricanes – Series Betting (+164)

Despite a final push by the Boston Bruins in Game 7, the Hurricanes were able to hold on and advance to the second round for the third consecutive year. Max Domi scored twice, including the game-winner, and added one assist to lead the Hurricanes past the Bruins in a close 3-2 final. Four players registered three goals in the first round, and DeAngelo and Jaccob Slavin shared the lead in points with eight apiece. The team doesn’t boast big numbers by any singular player, but what they do have is scoring by committee.

The Hurricanes are entering this round as heavy favourites, a step up from their previous odds in Round 1. They finished the regular season as the third-best team and sat just behind the Florida Panthers by a difference of six points. If they manage to humiliate the Rangers in a series sweep, the odds carry over to a generous +820. Winning in five games brings that number down to a +390, and a six-game series win raises it back up to a +430. Should the series go seven games and Carolina wins, you’re looking at a +390 return.
