NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Juuse Saros ($7,800): The Nashville Predators have a favorable matchup against the Anaheim Ducks, and it puts Saros in a great spot to come away with the win. The Predators are the heaviest (-245) moneyline favorites, and Saros has the eighth-highest goalie salary on the slate. It was a slow start to the season for both Saros and the Predators, but he has turned things around lately with three goals or fewer allowed in four of his last five starts.
We also see Saros piling up the saves with 32 saves or more in three of his last five starts, giving him a nice combination of a floor and a ceiling. This should play well against the Ducks, who are one of the weaker offensive teams in the league. They come in scoring only 2.16 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-lowest in the league.
The Ducks are also carrying a 51.44 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, putting them as the fifth-worst in the league. Saros is in a spot to continue his strong performances and pick up a win for the Predators.
High-Salaried Skaters
Cole Caufield ($8,600): With a 6.5 over/under, the San Jose Sharks at Montreal Canadiens matchup is primed for an offensive explosion. Both teams are in the league's bottom six for the most goals allowed per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations while both also being in the top half for the most goals scored in the same situations.
Caufield is putting up solid numbers right now with 35 shots on goal and 9 NHL points over his last 10 games. He's seeing time on the first forward line and the first power-play, putting him in a spot for a multi-point performance every night. The Sharks also come in with a 57.83 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 14th-worst in the league.
They are allowing opponents to take a ton of shots, and those shots are often leading to goals. This is an elite fantasy matchup for all involved, and Caufield is at the top of the list.
Roman Josi ($8,000): Josi has been, and will continue to be, an elite fantasy option. The Predators have a slate-high 3.85 implied goal total, and with a soft matchup against the Ducks, this is an easy spot to look for some production. Josi has been a mainstay in NHL DFS for many seasons, and this year is no different. He's viable in all formats due to an insanely high floor of points, and his time on the first power-play unit gives him a high ceiling.
Over his last 10 games, Josi has a ridiculous 40 shots on goal, 27 blocked shots, and 10 NHL points. The man is getting it done in all areas of the game, filling up the stat sheet on a nightly basis, and he should be rostered everywhere you can afford his salary.
Value Skaters
Anthony Beauvillier ($4,300): The New York Islanders have a 3.13 implied goal total tonight and take on the lowly Philadelphia Flyers. After a good start to the season, the Flyers have crashed back down to earth, making them a clear target to attack every night. They come in with a 63.23 Corsi Against, which is the second-worst in the league, allowing opponents to fire shots all game long.
Beauvillier is on the second forward line and the second power-play for the Islanders, which has led him to rack up 14 shots on goal and 3 NHL points over his last five games. He's a great point-per-dollar option tonight with some goal-scoring upside.
Dylan Strome ($5,800): Strome now centers the first forward line for the Washington Capitals, and any time you can get some cheaper exposure to Alex Ovechkin, you should do so. The Caps come in with a 3.15 implied goal total and are on the road to take on the Vancouver Canucks, a team that has found a bit of consistency in winning games but still struggling on defense.
The Canucks are allowing the 10th-most (2.75) goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, along with the 10th-worst (59.30) Corsi Against. This should put Strome and his new role alongside Ovechkin in a great spot, as he looks to add to his 8 NHL points and 23 shots on goal over his last 10 games.
