NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Jordan Binnington ($7,200): The St. Louis Blues are down 0-1 to the Colorado Avalanche and will need another big performance from Binnington to even up the series. Despite the loss in Game 1, Binnington was super solid with 51 saves and just 3 goals allowed. That gave him 28.8 FanDuel points, which is noticeably high given the fact he lost.
That high volume of saves gave him a tremendous floor of fantasy points, and if the tables were turned and he came away with the win, we'd be talking about a massive fantasy outing. I'll look to Binnington for that save volume and roll the dice on the variance that is losing a game in the playoffs during overtime.
High-Salaried Skaters
Nathan MacKinnon ($9,900): MacKinnon is riding a five-game point streak and is proving to be the most consistent fantasy option in the playoffs -- which is nothing new. Among players with at least 50 games played in the playoffs, MacKinnon is producing 1.38 NHL points per game, which is the third-highest in NHL History. At the most important time of the year, he puts up numbers every night; there's no other way to put it.
He has 7 NHL points and 37 shots on goal in the five games he's played in this year's playoffs. A remarkably high floor of points and a high ceiling make him the ideal top-tier option to spend salary on tonight.
Jonathan Huberdeau ($8,400): Huberdeau needs to be better for the Florida Panthers to even up their series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Huberdeau finished the regular season with 115 points, which was tied for the second-most in the entire league. He had a career year in nearly every category, which hasn't translated into the playoffs.
He has only four NHL points in seven games, and that isn't good enough if the Panthers have hopes of advancing past the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions. His role on the second forward line and the first power-play unit remains unchanged, but he needs to do more with that large offensive role.
Value Skaters
Alex Killorn ($5,100): Killorn has been a solid contributor for the Lightning in the playoffs, adding 4 assists, 15 shots on goal, and 6 blocked shots in eight games. He continues to play on the second forward line and the first power-play with Brayden Point listed as out.
Tampa Bay has scored at least three goals in five of their eight games in the playoffs, giving their forwards plenty of offensive potential. Given the lack of defense from the Panthers, Tampa should be in a spot to continue to push the pace on offense.
Brayden Schenn ($5,300): Schenn's salary isn't high enough for the role he is currently playing for the Blues. Forward lines and the combination of players are always changing in the playoffs but right now, Schenn is on the first forward line and the first power-play squad for St. Louis.
He has one assist in each of his last three games while adding four shots on goal and five blocked shots.
