NHL Betting: Flames vs Oilers Second Round Game 2 – 05/20/22

The second-round matchup between the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers continues in Calgary for Game 2 of the series with the Flames leading 1-0. Get all the betting tips for the game here covering the moneyline, over/under, and game props.

Calgary Flames (-175) vs Edmonton Oilers (+145)

The Oilers are even more of an underdog in Game 2 of this series, which makes it a lot better value for a team that scored six goals at even strength against the Flames. Mike Smith is bound to have a bounce-back performance and the style of play for the Oilers has definitely been addressed. But now that the early nerves are out of the way for the series and they know what to expect from that building, they can split the series before heading back home.

Special teams will have to be sharper, specifically the power play. The Oilers were unable to generate much and Jay Woodcroft gave the second unit a ton of ice time to see if it would get the team going. The Oilers’ top unit is the very dangerous one and has been very good throughout the first round. It will have to return and at least net one goal to both get the confidence back and have an impact in the game both on the scoreboard and mentally. Doubt was put in the Flames’ heads after the comeback mounted by Edmonton in Game 1. Take the Oilers at this good value to even up the series.

Over/Under

The Flames scored nine goals in Game 1 against the Oilers. Three of those goals came on the first nine shots of the game and they chased Smith. Koskinen allowed five and the Flames also scored an empty-net goal. The top line of the Flames was the most dominant line in the regular season and they showed up to play, scoring four goals, including the empty-net goal.

Jacob Markstrom is bound to bounce back from his horrible start as well considering everything seemed to be going in on his glove side and low. For how good of a team defensively the Flames were through the regular season and in Round 1, they had a couple of collapses and the Oilers showed off their goal-scoring ability that was present in Round 1 and a good chunk of the regular season. Don’t expect the teams to fix everything in one go and in a short period of time, so take the over in this one (O6.5, -115).

Game Props

Calgary burst to an early 2-0 lead in the first minute of Game 1. The Oilers were caught off guard but will be more ready to go in this game. The Oilers do much better when they score the first goal of the game and aren’t chasing. They’ve had two great comebacks in the postseason thus far that both resulted in late-game losses. So if they are going to take Game 2, they will likely have to get the lead in the game. Take the Oilers to score first (+100) and the goal to come within the first 9:30 of game time (-200). Then bet the teams to combine for exactly two goals in the first period, whichever direction that goes in (+230).
