Brentford vs. Arsenal

Arsenal to win -125

Arsenal remained in first place despite a 3-1 defeat against Manchester United in their last league match two weeks ago. The Gunners won each of their first five league games this year, putting them top of the table and second in the league in FBRef’s expected goal difference (xGD) -- behind only Manchester City.

The Gunners are facing a Brenford team that got off to a good start this season at 2W-3D-1L, but the Bees have been far from perfect with a loss to Fulham and draws against Everton and Crystal Palace, all teams that are likely to finish in the bottom half of the table. Brentford started off strong last season, as well, but finished in 13th with a mediocre 13-7-18 record.

The Bees figure to have a similar finish this season, and Arsenal should be expecting to get the full three points, especially if they want to be considered legitimate title contenders.

Aston Villa vs. Southampton

Southampton to win +250

Southampton are off to a better start than Aston Villa this season, as they are three points ahead in the table and, perhaps more significantly, are ahead by four goals on xGD. Villa had lost three straight games before a miraculous tie against Manchester City in which they drew 1-1 despite being outshot 13-3 and holding just 27% possession.

On the other side, Southampton have been pretty solid despite facing some difficult competition. The Saints earned a 2-1 win against Chelsea in a game they had seven shots on target, and they lost 1-0 to Manchester United but played well and outshot United 17-11.

The Saints have been the decidedly better team early in the season, and even away from home, they have a good chance to get a victory on Friday afternoon.

Nottingham Forest vs. Fulham

Fulham to win +155

Fulham have been one of the surprise teams in the EPL this season, as they find themselves in 10th place at the moment with some impressive results against top competition. Fulham drew 2-2 against Liverpool in the season opener and defeated fourth-place Brighton 2-1. They also played well away against Arsenal and Tottenham, losing both games by 2-1 scorelines.

Fulham will face a Forest team that are a leading candidate for relegation with a 1-1-4 record and a league-worst -7.8 xGD. Forest have lost three straight, including a 3-2 loss last week against a Bournemouth team that also seems likely to feature heavily in the relegation race.

Fulham are playing like a competent side so far this campaign, and they should be able to win on the road against an inferior opponent.
