NHL Betting: Oilers vs Flames Second Round Game 3 – 05/22/22

The second-round matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames heads to Edmonton for Game 3 of the series with the teams tied 1-1. Get all the betting tips for the game here covering the moneyline, over/under, and game props.

Edmonton Oilers (+100) vs Calgary Flames (-120)

The Oilers mounted their second multi-goal comeback of the two-game series thus far in Calgary to beat the Flames in Game 2. This tied the teams up as the series shifts north to Edmonton where the Oilers are much more dominant. The two teams still remain dead even on the season, each winning three games.

At one point in this series, the Oilers are going to get off to an early lead from a hot start to the game. They have proven they can score a ton of goals and the home crowd should get them more fired up to play off the bat. As the underdogs, bet the Oilers to take the series lead at home for the best value.

Over/Under

The Oilers have scored five or more goals against Jacob Markstrom, a Vezina Trophy finalist this season, in five of six games the teams have played this season. Mike Smith settled down after he allowed three goals in Game 2, but both teams’ offences seem too much to handle for the defence and goaltenders on the other side. The Oilers have also held the Flames to three goals or less in four of the six games.

Despite Markstrom being a Vezina candidate, the Oilers have two of the top four leading scorers from the regular season and the two leading scorers from the playoffs. Johnny Gaudreau also happens to sit third in points in the playoffs for the Flames, so Smith isn’t having any easier time in the Oilers’ net. Take the over (O6.5, -135) in what I assume should be a high-scoring game in almost every game of the series.

Game Props

Despite just scoring two goals in the first period of the Flames’ seven-game series against the Dallas Stars, they have completely flipped the switch and started games hot vs the Oilers. In the two games of Round 2, the Flames have scored five first-period goals, while the Oilers tacked on two. This makes betting the over in goals in the first period very easy (O2.5, +170).

As I mentioned above, the Oilers have scored five or more goals against Markstrom in five of the six games this season, so also bet the Oilers to do that again at home (O4.5, +225).
